When you have a deadline and it’s already 3 p.m., you don’t want to waste time fumbling with a technical detail in Microsoft Word. And yet there are a few tasks that consistently befuddle us when trying to work on a document. Deleting a blank page is one of them. It’s okay, we are here to help. When you open another document that has a task pane add-in embedded, the add-in is displayed in the first. What Is A Task PaneHere are three ways to delete a page in Microsoft Word. The blank page will disappear and the cursor will be brought to the bottom of the prior page. Sometimes, however, hitting the delete key alone won’t work. The cursor is still brought up to the bottom of the prior page, but the empty page will remain. In this case, you most likely have unwanted carriage returns on the page. You can find those by turning on Paragraph marks on the Home ribbon tab. If you see a long line of marks, they are carriage returns that must be deleted before the page will go away. The third method is perfect for scanning a much longer document. Before handing in a thirty-page report, take the time to scan through the entire document by viewing thumbnails of each page quickly. Change to the View ribbon tab, and click to enable the Navigation Pane. Be sure to click to change to the Pages area. From here, scroll through the list of pages to find out if any surprise blank pages pop out at you. Once you identify them, you can delete them. I click on 'Word' icon. The blank page appears per usual, but the toolbar or task bar at the top is gone. All the little icons, poof! In the past, I would click on the first one for a new Document, I would click on the second one, which was an image of a page with a corner bent, for existing files or documents. I store letters, hand made invoices, cut and pasted news articles, etc. On Word pages, or Word files or whatever one should call those. I know how to open a new Document and I know how to open existing documents, and that's about all I used from that top tool bar. Anyway, the whole bar is gone. I looked around on Settings and Control Panel, but it is beyond my abilities to figure out what on earth happened. Someone please help! Thanks in advance! If you menu bar is also missing, see for instructions on how to restore If you do actually have Word 2007, as the 'Applies to' states, then you don't have a menu and toolbars but the Ribbon, which can be 'minimized' (and in Word 2013 hidden entirely). Here are several ways to bring it back in Word 2007 and above: • If the tabs are showing, double-click on any tab, or • Press Alt+F1, or • Click the arrow at the right end of the Quick Access Toolbar (or right-click anywhere on the QAT) and click on 'Minimize the Ribbon' (to uncheck it). • In Word 2010, click the down arrow beside the Help button in the upper right corner of the screen. • In Word 2013, click the Ribbon Display Options button beside the Help button in the top right corner of the screen and choose 'Show Tabs and Commands.'
